Why the Right Counsellor Directory?

RightCounsellor.com is part of an international family of directories serving Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Each of our directories is designed around one aim: to make it easy for an individual user to narrow down lists of candidate practitioners according to the characteristics they might be looking for, such as geographical location, specialisation areas, or other services. There’s no game of filling in forms and hoping for the best, there’s no random shuffling of lists of practitioners (unless you request it), and there are no dead-ends where the combinations of characterists you’ve selected don’t actually return any results.

Where Our Information Comes From

All practitioner information listed at RightCounsellor.com is either public domain, non-personal information sourced and indexed from other publicly available websites which we believe to be authoritative — much like Google does when setting out to index the entire web — or it is provided to us directly by practitioners themselves through our restricted self-registration system, designed for Australian counsellors and psychotherapists who are members of a recogised professional organisation with an ethical framework and a complaints procedure.

This means that all practitioner information contained within this directory has either been supplied directly by an individual self-registering on the site as a practitioner or has been corroborated by one or more other sites which we believe to be authoritative and which have separately made the information available to the public. However, we have not independently investigated and verified the authenticity of all information contained within the directory, including but not limited to the individual indications of expertise or specialisation attributed to individual therapists. We strongly recommend that you do independently verify information provided here before making contact with any listed mental health practitioner.

We operate a directory made up solely of 1) facts, 2) maps, and, for some entries, 3) a brief informational note provided by the practitioner. It is our understanding that nobody holds or can legitimately claim any copyright on the facts in this directory, and individual practitioners hold the copyright on any brief informational notes they have provided. Maps are provided by Mapbox from OpenStreetMap data. Therefore, it would be unreasonable for us to claim any copyright whatsoever on any data within this directory.

National and international legal precedents maintain that the facts collected within a directory are not copyrightable but that the organisation and layout specific to a particular directory may be, provided that they are of sufficient originality.
